That was a great article man, thanks for sending it. Japanese culture has always interested me and i have a friend who recently got married and moved to Japan with his wife (shes Japanese). They opened up a school and he currently teaches students how to speak English. I dont think hes very fluent (im probably wrong) in the language, so im pretty sure she translates and he teaches the rules. Hes been living there now for about 3 years, so with so much immersion, im sure hes pretty much got the grasp of it(lol i actually havent talked to him and asked him about it). Its interesting when you look at it from a different point of view, because i'm sure learning how to write and speak English, is very hard. i mean there's so many strange rules with speaking and writing English. So much nonsense with silent t's and silents p's and whatnot. I'm currently in my final year of college (medical lab technician) and plan on moving to the city when i graduate (i live in New York). What i would like to do, is take some classes while working and living in the city. I've always been interested in it and the culture fascinates me. I'm glad i stumbled upon your website because in reading your article and reading what you have to say, it gives me hope that yes, i can do this and with time and effort, it can be done. What i would like to do, is get a pretty good grasp on the language, so whenever is that i do visit them, i'll be able get around and really enjoy everything that Japan has to offer. I would absolutely LOVE to go to the Ghibli museum. Those films are some of my absolute favorites and i dont think the English dubs do them justice. So again, thank you so much for these reviews and little history lessons. The nes is my absolute favorite and your reviews are such a pleasure, so please keep up the good work because i'm having a blast.

Glad you like it! It's been a lot of fun and I want to do even more and more games.. they just take so long 8O

Learning Japanese didn't take TOO long - learning the most basic writing system (used by most old games) only took a week or so. Mastering the language was probably a few years. If it's of any interest, I wrote this a long while ago: http://tomato.fobby.net/old/jpntranslator1.htm

I just want to letcha know, that i think your page is fantastic. Great reading, especially for someone that loves the nes (as much as I do). Many thanks for taking your time to do this. How long did it take you to master the language and alphabets?
